Publication Ethics
MANTHANO: Jurnal Pendidikan Kristen, e-ISSN 2828-951x (Online), 2829-0135 (Print), is a peer-reviewed journal published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Kristen Samarinda, Indonesia. This statement clarifies the ethical behavior of all parties involved in posting an article in this journal, including the author, the chief editor, the Editorial Board, the peer-reviewed and the publisher. This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
For Authors:
- Reporting Standards: Authors should provide an accurate presentation of the original research report and an objective discussion of its significance. Researchers should present the results of the research honestly and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate manipulation of data. A manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to enable others to repeat the research. Cheating or deliberately presenting inaccurate data is unethical and unacceptable behavior. Manuscripts must follow the journal submission guidelines.
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure to write completely original work. Manuscripts should not be submitted to more than one publisher simultaneously, unless there is approval from the editor for co-publication. Relevant previous works and publications, both by other researchers and the author's own, should be acknowledged and referred to appropriately. Primary literature should be cited where possible. Original words taken directly from publications by other researchers should appear in quotation marks in accordance with standard citation techniques.
- Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications: In general, authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable behavior. Multiple publications originating from a single research project should be clearly identified and the primary publication should be referenced.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Authors should acknowledge all sources of data used in the research by citation. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others should always be done.
- Article Authorship: Authorship of research publications should accurately reflect the individual's contribution to the work and its reporting. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, conduct or interpretation of the research reported. Others who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Authors also ensure that all authors have seen and approved the submitted version of the manuscript and the inclusion of their names as co-authors.
- Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: All authors must clearly disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the outcome or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
- Fundamental Errors in Published Work: If the author discovers significant errors or inaccuracies in the submitted manuscript, then the author should immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and work with the editor to retract or correct the manuscript.
- For Field Research, the author must present a research certificate at the place of research focus before the manuscript is published.
For Editors:
- Publication Decision: Based on the review report from the reviewer, the editor may accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript. The validity of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers should always drive the decision. Editors may be guided by journal editorial board policies and constrained by applicable legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making these decisions. Editors should be responsible for everything they publish and should have procedures and policies in place to ensure the quality of the material they publish and maintain the integrity of published articles.
- Manuscript Review: Editors should ensure that each manuscript is first evaluated by the editors for originality and appropriateness to the scope of the journal. Editors should ensure that the peer review process is fair and thoughtful. Editors should explain the peer review process through information for authors. Editors should conduct appropriate peer review of manuscripts considered for publication by selecting people with sufficient and relevant expertise and endeavoring to avoid conflicts of interest.
- Fair Play: The editor should ensure that every manuscript accepted by the journal is reviewed in terms of its intellectual content without considering the sex, gender, race, religion, nationality, etc. of the author.
- Confidentiality: Editors should ensure that information regarding manuscripts submitted by authors is kept confidential. Editors should critically assess any potential breach of data protection and author confidentiality.
- Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Journal Editors will not use material not intended for publication disclosed in submitted manuscripts without the written consent of the authors. Editors should not be involved in decisions about manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
For Reviewers:
- Confidentiality: Information regarding manuscripts submitted by authors should be kept confidential. They should not be shown or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should ensure that the authors have acknowledged all sources of data used in the research. Reviewers should identify relevant published works referred to by the authors. Reviewers should immediately notify the editor if they discover irregularities, potential violations of publication ethics, become aware of substantial similarities between the manuscript and concurrent submission to other journals or published articles, or suspect that errors may have occurred during the research or writing and submission of the manuscript.
- Objectivity Standard: Review of submitted manuscripts should be conducted objectively and reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Reviewers should follow the journal's instructions on the specific feedback required from them, unless there is an argumentative reason not to do so. Reviewers should be constructive in their reviews and provide feedback that will help authors to improve their manuscript. Reviewers should make it clear which of the suggested additional studies are essential to support the claims made in the manuscript under consideration.
- Disclosures and Conflicts of Interest: Information or ideas specifically obtained through peer review activities should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain.
- Timeliness: Reviewers must respond within a reasonable time limit in accordance with established policies. Reviewers only agree to review a manuscript if they are reasonably confident of being able to return the review within the proposed or mutually agreed time limit, and inform the journal immediately if they require an extension. In the event that a reviewer feels it is not possible for them to complete the review of a manuscript within the specified time, they should communicate this to the editor so that the manuscript can be sent to another reviewer.
